Seismic activity has recently been felt around the world, providing a glimpse into its dynamic nature. Here comes the last major event in the seismic calendar:

1. Earthquake in Delhi, India

The earthquake that struck on February 17, 2025, was felt strongly all over Delhi around 10.03 AM IST with a local magnitude of about 4.0, near the capital. 2. Earthquake in Lisbon, Portugal

Effectively, just a few hours ago, an earthquake of magnitude 4.7 struck the vicinity of Lisbon, just ahead of the Champions League press conference. The tremor rocked the room, as confirmed by CNN Portugal. Head Coach Bruno Lage initially only heard glass doors rattling, mistaking it for that. Seixal was the focus of the tremor that hit its closest localities, such as Setubal, but felt stronger in places like Almada and even Sesimbra within Greater Lisbon. No damage or injury reports have been brought to its notice.

3. Earthquake in Southern Siberia, Russia

An earthquake of 6.4 magnitude shook southern Siberia at around 8:48 AM local time and at a location about 250 to 300 kilometers away from the epicenter within the Republic of Altai. No casualties were officially reported by the regional head; however, for the future, a “high alert regime” suspension of public events and even some anticipation of problems in the water supply near the epicenter was announced. At the preliminary assessments, very few sites had sustained damage.

4. Earthquake in Falls City, Texas, USA

Residing in a little too close proximity to San Antonio in Texas, an earthquake measuring 3.0 on the Richter scale was recorded on 15th Feb 2025 at around 7:52 PM CST in Falls City, Texas. This earthquake is being counted as the fourth in that region within a span of four weeks, hinting towards a rise in the seismic activity in Central Texas- a region historically not very known for earthquakes. Some of the previous ones include a 4.5 one on January 29, a 3.6 magnitude on January 31, and a 2.8 magnitude on February 5.

5. False Alarm in Brazil

Unfortunately, Google’s Android-based earthquake detection system on February 15, 2025, falsely raised alarms sending reports of a nonexistent 5.5 magnitude earthquake to users in the cities of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The same Civil Defense within São Paulo confirmed the same: no such earthquakes were recorded. There is an investigation into this incident whereby Google has disabled the system in Brazil.

6. Earthquake in Santorini, Greece

Damage is showing quite a bit of seismicity since there has been running recently concerning earthquakes with neighboring Santorini and Islands like Ios, Amorgos, `and Anafi. The number of earthquakes has decreased recently but is still unpredictable. While the dormant volcano of Santorini does not imply immediate danger, it is a fact that the combination of tectonic and magmatic processes influences seismicity. Measures by authorities have been put in place, even including rescue teams and power generation equipment, while schools also keep closed.

7. Earthquake in Tibet, China

It has rocked Tibet, China, with a massive magnitude of 7.3, causing the death of at least 126 and injuring hundreds. Ongoing rescue operations by the authorities are underway, marshaling resources to assist those caught by the event.

8. Earthquake in Papua New Guinea

East Sepik province on March 24, 2024, sank below a devastating magnitude of 7.0 earthquake that destroyed much area. It killed about five lives and destroyed about a thousand houses. The additional wreckage and casualties are from the severe flooding up the Sepik River, wreaking havoc in the province.

This reality is underscored by earthquake preparedness requiring timely information on impact mitigation by such natural disasters.
